- What is a municipality?
A municipality is a local government area that provides services and governance to its residents. This can include cities, towns, and rural communities.
- How many municipalities are there in PEI?
PEI has 57 municipalities, including two cities, 10 towns, and 45 rural municipalities. See list of municipalities.
- What services do municipalities provide?

- How are municipalities governed?

- How can I participate in municipal elections?
Residents can participate by voting in municipal elections, which are held every four years, the next general election is November 4, 2026. You can also run for a position on the council if you meet the eligibility requirements. Find out more about PEI Elections.
